Young Adult Education

Our Mission is to work with students, families, schools and community resources to enrich a student’s success in school.

It is the desire of Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD that all students receive a diploma. Sometimes, though, circumstances get in the way of opportunities and students have to find other ways to obtain a diploma or GED. CFBISD has set up various programs to help students “catch up” in credits or enroll in one of the GED programs. Falling behind does not mean staying behind.

GED Program
If you are high school aged, 17 or younger, you must enroll in a C-FB high school. Your English and Spanish proficiency will be assessed to best determine how to meet your educational needs. Two programs are available to assist you:

Young Adult ESL Program is designed for the following:

  • Students 17-21 years old
  • Never attended high school in the United States
  • Does not speak English

The High School GED Program or HSEP is designed for the following:

  • Students 16-18 years of age
  • Fewer than 8 credits
  • Two years have passed since entering ninth grade

Students must apply through their high school Counselor.

Credit Recovery
So you’re behind just a few credits and need to catch up? We have a plan for you! The high schools are equipped with special classrooms called PLATO labs. Students can work through curriculum in a wide variety of subjects at an increased pace.

Your high school Counselor has information regarding correspondence courses, the cost and availability. C-FB Summer School is another option. See your counselor for information. Do you need more than a few credits? Maybe the Alternative School is the answer!

Alternative School
Mary Grimes Education Center is the non-traditional or alternative school for CFB. The program is designed to help students achieve a high school diploma through flexible scheduling, smaller class sizes and accelerated curriculum.

Students wishing to attend Mary Grimes Education Center must:

Apply through high school Counselor
Completed ninth and/or tenth grade TAKS
Not be older than 21
Another option includes Carrollton-Farmers Branch Can! Academy.
