The ACT assesses academic achievement
of high school students. The program is a comprehensive system of data collection, processing
and reporting designed to help students and counselors develop post-secondary plans and to
help colleges develop instructional programs suited to the needs and characteristics of
the applicants. The ACT takers are self-selected; that is, any student may opt to
take the test.
