Making Dreams Come True for Teachers
The C-FB ISD
Educational Foundation and
I are both celebrating ten-year
anniversaries. In September
1997, I returned to the Carrollton-Farmers
Branch Independent School
District to serve as the
superintendent. At that time,
the community was in the
final stages of creating
an Educational Foundation
for our teachers and students.
And, in those ten years,
those community leaders have
made such a difference in
the lives of so many. Thanks
to their vision, so many
dreams have come true for
our teachers and students.

When I first
arrived in C-FB ISD, I wrote
this column for a weekly
newspaper. Ten years later,
I'm having it posted on the
district's website to reach
more people. We're producing
it into a video message to
run on CFB-TV and on the
website. I'm even podcasting
my message to reach more
people so they can learn
about what's happening in
our district.
As I looked
back over those first columns,
I wrote about the beginnings
of our Educational Foundation.
And, over the last ten years,
I've talked about the good
works of these devoted community
leaders who've rolled up
their sleeves to support
our teachers and students.
The Steering
Committee who formed the
Foundation had two purposes:
1) to raise funds for our
teachers and students and
2) to serve as a conduit
of community-wide support
to bring our six communities
of Addison, Carrollton, Coppell,
Farmers Branch, Irving and
Dallas together for the benefit
of the school district. And,
thanks to those very dedicated
people, the Foundation has
given over $800,000 to our
teachers and students in
grants and scholarships in
its 10 years of existence.
Plus, the Foundation
leaders have worked with
individuals, businesses,
PTAs, and other organizations
to set up endowments for
teacher grants and student
scholarships that will provide
funds in perpetuity. I am
so very proud of what these
citizens have accomplished.
The Educational Foundation
is financially sound thanks
to the leadership of the
past and current Foundation
Boards. I know that C-FB
ISD Educational Foundation
will continue to grow and
provide support to the students
and teachers over the next
decade.
Morning for
Children Breakfast
The Educational
Foundation's Annual "A
Morning for Children" Breakfast
serves as the kick-off to
the annual campaign. This
year's event is Tues., Oct.
2 at 7:15 a.m. at the Hotel
Intercontinental, 15201 Dallas
Parkway, Addison, TX 75001.
The event will feature humorist
Dr. Charles Petty and emcee
Riney Jordan. This year's
presenting sponsor is Hines.
It is always a fun event
where we celebrate teachers
and students plus raise money
to help teachers make dreams
come true. You can "make
a difference" by sponsoring
a table or by purchasing
individual tickets. Breakfast
sponsorship opportunities
are available from $1,000
to $7,500. Individual tickets
are $50 each. This is a great
way to promote your business
and show your support of
education in our community.
To purchase
sponsorships, tables, or
individual tickets, please
contact the foundation office
at 972-968-6544. Sponsorships
and tables may also be purchased
on the foundation's website
at www.educational-foundation.org.
