Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District is an incredible public school system because we honor diversity, value each child, embrace creativity and celebrate all accomplishments. And, I am so proud that C-FB ISD is a 2006 Recognized District through the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Accountability System.
Our students were successful because we in C-FB ISD believe that ALL students can achieve. When you combined that belief with our teachers providing quality instruction and parents setting high standards for their children, you create a positive, caring learning atmosphere for every student.
This accountability system has proven to be effective in improving student performance in academics and in ensuring that students across the state receive a quality education. C-FB ISD students continue to be very successful on the TAKS and traditionally score significantly better than their peers across the state.
The district can celebrate other achievements in terms of the accountability system.
- Eleven campuses increased in their ratings.
- Four Exemplary campuses (an increase of two from 2005)
- Twenty Recognized campuses (an increase of nine from 2005)
What is even more impressive is that 69 percent of C-FB ISD's campuses received either an Exemplary or Recognized rating compared to 43 percent of the campuses statewide.
This year, C-FB ISD has changed its vision statement to
“All students will meet the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) at the proficient or commended level and graduate college ready without remediation.”
We want ALL students to pass TAKS, but we want to go beyond that for our students. Our goal is to have every student ready for college as that individual receives a C-FB ISD high school diploma.
For the 2006-07 school year, I have outlined five major district goals. The first one is
“The Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District will earn a Recognized Rating from the Texas Education Agency.”
To meet this goal, C-FB ISD must continue to improve student achievement because the state has increased the standards for a district or schools to earn a recognized and/or exemplary rating.
To earn a recognized rating, 75% of all sub groups must meet the standard in all subjects assessed.
C-FB ISD has seen continuous improvement because as public school educators we are determined to teach the state curriculum. In C-FB ISD, we analyze TAKS results. We refine teacher training based on those results. That changes how our teachers teach and ultimately improves student performance.
C-FB ISD is a public school system filled with professional, innovative, caring individuals and one that is truly valued by the community it serves. As I visit our schools and see “education in action,” I am filled with a great sense of pride and much awe. I see the C-FB ISD educational team making differences in the lives of students. I also see volunteers working along side our employees to help students have positive school experiences.
Parents play a vital role in their children’s success. Being parents in today’s world can be incredibly difficult. I salute our parents who encourage their children to do their best every day and who work with the faculty at their schools to ensure positive learning experiences for ALL students. Thank you parents for getting your children to school on time, helping them with their homework, and all the other ways that you help your children be successful learners.
Thank you to each and everyone who played a role in helping C-FB ISD become a TEA Recognized School District. But more importantly, thank you for helping C-FB ISD students learn. I hope that you will continue to work with C-FB ISD as we work toward our vision of preparing all students to graduate college ready without remediation.
