Dr. Annette Griffin
Superintendent of Schools
October 2005 |
Our school district has always led the way in helping those who need assistance, and when our country was hit with two hurricanes, our students, staff, families and community stepped in to help. I know that the C-FB ISD educational team and community have family and friends who live and work in the Gulf Coast areas hardest hit, and our hearts and thoughts are with you and yours as well as the thousands of families who have been touched.
During September the C-FB ISD students and staff have raised over $35,000 to provide assistance to those individuals whose lives have been affected. These funds are supporting the American Red Cross, Metrocrest Social Services and the C-FB ISD Council of PTAs Clothes Closet. A portion will also be given to the campuses that have enrolled many of the students and are working with the families who have relocated to our community. We have enrolled almost 500 students whose families have relocated to our communities from the Gulf Coast area. Thank you for helping making these students and their families feel at home by hosting special lunches, dinners and other events at the school.
Our students and staff didn’t just raise money. The students and staff have also collected food items, clothing, and other necessities. They have donated their time to various agencies that are helping families who have moved to our community. I am so proud to work in a school district that truly believes in supporting and caring for people and that has “services" as one of its core values.
Staying informed
I encourage you to stay informed about your school district, and the district has several information sources, including our district website, CFB-TV and electronic newsletters. C-FB ISD’s website, www.cfbisd.edu, is an excellent information source. The district posts a great deal of material on the website, and all departments and schools have sites linked to www.cfbisd.edu. The district also has an email address, cfbinfo@cfbisd.edu. If you have a question or need some information that you cannot find on the website, I encourage you write in so the staff can find answers to your questions.
I invite you to subscribe to the district’s e-newsletters. You can sign up for our newsletters by going to the district’s website and filling in your email address in the box that says “Join the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD mailing list." C-FB ISD is a “spam-free" zone, and I assure you that the district will respect your privacy and will send only information that pertains to C-FB ISD.
Currently, the district has two e-newsletters, Inside C-FB and C-FB Essentials. Inside C-FB is distributed after all regularly scheduled School Board meetings. Inside C-FB highlights School Board actions and district news. C-FB Essentials is produced the weeks when the School Board doesn’t meet. It features items about district and campus events, projects, school finance news, awards and achievements.
CFB-TV
Our television channel, CFB-TV, is a partnership operation between the Office of Public Information and the Academy for Media Arts and Technology (AMAT) at R. L. Turner. You can view CFB-TV on Comcast Cable Channel 16 in Farmers Branch and Carrollton, or you can watch it live on your computer by visiting our website, www.cfbisd.edu. I believe that our district is the first public school district in the nation to web stream its public access channel.
During football season, you can listen to live audio broadcast of varsity football games on CFB-TV. These broadcasts are provided by Vince Cowdrey, director of AMAT, Russ Wisener, R. L. Turner assistant principal, AMAT students, and the Public Information staff.
I am so proud of what our students, staff and schools accomplish each and every day. But, these achievements would not be possible without the continued support of parents, families, and the community as whole. So on behalf of the district’s educational team and students, I thank you C-FB ISD community -- for believing in public education.
