Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District is known nationally for its work with technology and its committed educational team who wants parents to be involved in their children’s education. These two driving forces have helped C-FB ISD install a web-based tool that we believe will improve communications between home and school.
Two national surveys, one conducted by the National PTA and the other by the National MetLife Survey of the American Teacher, report that a common communication barrier between home and school is lack of time. I believe ParentCONNECT will help improve communications because it’s easy to use, and parents can check their students’ progress online anytime day or night.
All a parent needs to access ParentCONNECT is an Internet provider and browser such as Internet Explorer 5.0, AOL 5.0 or Netscape 4.7. The application works on a PC or MAC computer. Families without home computers may use any computer with Internet access such as the ones at the public library or even at C-FB ISD schools.
All parents who have legal rights to view the school records of their children can use ParentCONNECT, but only one User ID and password is issued for the household. Parents not living in the same home but who are listed in the student information system may be given a separate User ID and password.
Through ParentCONNECT, parents can view general information about their student as well as the following:
- Class schedule
- Attendance
- Assignments
- Discipline
- Grades
- Health Information
Parents will also have the option to sign up for alert messages. These messages will be sent immediately as “pop up" messages to notify a parent of an issue that needs immediate attention such as attendance, assignments or grades.
C-FB ISD began ParentCONNECT as a pilot last year with Ranchview High School as well as the elementary and middle schools in its attendance zone. The parents and the teachers who have been involved have found the program to be beneficial.
As we launch ParentCONNECT district-wide, we will work by high school attendance zones, and our goal is to have the program implemented by the end of the first semester. Our Technology Division staff will conduct parent information meetings by high school attendance zones. Parents are invited to attend these meetings to learn more about ParentCONNECT. At the meetings, parents will receive ParentCONNECT materials and step-by-step instructions on how to sign-up for the service.

Once a parent completes the initial online registration, the registration process takes two weeks to complete. At the end of two weeks, the parent can pick up his/her ParentCONNECT registration materials at the campus of the youngest child.
As educators, we want each student to achieve, and we know that parents share the same goal. I believe that ParentCONNECT is another tool that will help C-FB ISD accomplish our mission of helping all students achieve to the highest level possible. I thank the community for its continued commitment to our children and public schools. Your support of technology and other educational operations allows us to provide the very best for students.
