It’s just around the corner
Greatest Gently Used Book Sale – you’ll find anywhere!
A project that I looked forward to every year is the Gently Used Book Sale. I can’t believe that this is the seventh year that we’ve had this fun event in our community. This year’s sale dates are February 27 through March 2. The Annual Gently Used Book Sale not only raises funds for the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation and Council of PTA, but it also provides all types of books at great prices.
The 2008 sale will be back in the very same location: Trinity Valley Shopping Center, 2660 N. Josey Lane, Carrollton. The shopping center is at the corner of the George Bush Turnpike and Josey Lane. Just look for the huge banner that says “Book Sale.”
What’s so amazing about this used book sale is the organization. Our volunteers take their work seriously, and when you come to our Gently Used Book Sale you will find the merchandise organized by category and even author. The committee and the volunteers have set up a sale that looks and feels like a book store.
The event raises funds for Educational Foundation grants and scholarships and PTA projects, including grants to the High School Post Proms. But most importantly - the sale has a second purpose - to get books into the hands of children and families.
Donations
These two groups need your support now. The Gently Used Book Sale Committee needs all kinds of items to make the sale a huge success.
Here are the types of items we’re looking for:
- Hardback & Paperback Books
- Children’s books (fiction, non-fiction)
- Adult books (fiction, non-fiction)
- Cookbooks
- Coffee table books
- Current reference books
- Original Videotapes
- Original CDs
- Original DVDs
- Audio Books (Cassettes, CDs)
Each school, the Administration Building, 1445 North Perry Road, Carrollton, and the Community Learning Complex, 1820 Pearl Street, Building B, Carrollton, are drop-off points. Collection boxes are usually located near the school’s main office. You can find the drop off points near the main entrances at our two office buildings. You may also drop off books at the Book Sale location on the following dates and times:
Tuesdays: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Thursdays: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Saturdays: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Sundays: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
If your business or organization is interested in conducting a drive for the sale, please contact 972-968-6543.
Volunteer Opportunities
Our C-FB ISD Council of PTA coordinates the volunteers who do a marvelous job of sorting and arranging all the donations for the sale. If you are a book lover and enjoy organizing, the PTA invites you to join the volunteer group. The volunteers will be sorting and organizing on the days listed above. You can stop by the book sale location on any of these days to sign up or you can also sign up by emailing the PTA Volunteer Chairman at UsedBooksaleVolunteers@cfbpta.org.
Sponsorship Opportunities
The Foundation and the Council of PTA are seeking sponsors for the Book Sale. Monetary donations raise funds to benefit district math and science initiatives. Sponsorship opportunities range from $5,000 to $500; and other in-kind options are available. To become a sponsor of this year’s Gently Used Book Sale, please contact the Educational Foundation office at 972-968-6543.
Financial contributions are tax deductible since the Foundation and the Council of PTA are 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. Any monetary contribution may be sent to the
C-FB ISD Educational Foundation, 1820 Pearl Street, Building B, Carrollton, TX 75006.
Book Sale Bucks
For those book lovers out there, the PTA and Foundation have Book Sale Bucks. Book Sale Bucks are gift certificates in $5.00 increments that can be used at the Gently Used Book Sale. The Book Sale Bucks can be purchased on the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation’s website, www.educational-foundation.org. You can make your “buck” purchases with a credit card or through a “Pay Pal Account.”
Individuals just click on the “book sale banner” on the foundation’s website to get to the Book Sale Buck information. You can make your “buck” purchases with a credit card or through a “Pay Pal Account.”
The Foundation will notify anyone who is given a Book Sale Buck as a gift. I think what makes it even better is that the Foundation keeps the Bucks until the sale so the individual just presents identification at the counter to pick up the bucks.

PTA and Educational Foundation
Our district is so fortunate to have an outstanding Council of PTA as well as local units at our schools. Their support of public education helps C-FB ISD provide a warm, safe, caring environment and support systems for families.
I applaud the Educational Foundation for its commitment to our school district and for the additional dollars that directly benefit classroom instruction and student achievement. The grants and scholarships that the Foundation has given are possible because businesses, corporations, organizations, alumni, friends, and citizens realize the importance of investing in educational excellence.
The support of the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation and the Council of PTA is helping fulfill the dreams of our students. Thank you, C-FB ISD community for believing in public education. Please support these two organizations by donating to the Gently Used Book Sale.
And, please join the Foundation, the PTA and me at the Sale on February 27 through March 2. It’s the greatest Gently Used Book Sale – you’ll find anywhere!
