Greatest Gently Used Book Sale – You’ll Find Anywhere!

The Sixth Annual Gently Used Book Sale not only raises funds for the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation and Council of PTAs, but it also provides all types of books at great prices. Scheduled for February 28 – March 4, the sale will be held at the Trinity Valley Shopping Center, 2660 North Josey Lane (Josey Lane @ the George Bush Turnpike) in Carrollton.

Just look for the huge banner that says “Book Sale” and that’s where you will find the greatest "Gently Used Book Sale" where all the books are organized by category and even author.

Although the event’s revenues raise funds for Educational Foundation grants and scholarships and PTA projects, including grants to the High School Post Proms, the sale has a second purpose to get books into the hands of children and families.

I hope that you will attend, but these two groups need your support right now. The Gently Used Book Sale Committee needs all kinds of items to make the sale a huge success.

Here are the types of items being sought:

  • Hardback & Paperback Books
    • Children’s books (fiction, non-fiction)
    • Adult books (fiction, non-fiction)
    • Cookbooks
    • Coffee table books
    • Current reference books
  • Original Videotapes
  • Original CDs
  • Original DVDs
  • Audio Books (Cassettes, CDs)

Drop-off Locations

Each school, the Administration Building (1445 North Perry Road, Carrollton, TX 75006) and the Community Learning Complex (1820 Pearl Street, Carrollton, TX 75006) are serving as drop-off points. In the schools, collection boxes are usually located near the school’s main/principal’s office while at our two office buildings, they are near our main entrances.

Schools work to collect the most books. The Book Sale Committee annually presents awards to the high school, middle school, and two elementary schools that collect the most books. This year’s four winners will receive $125 gift certificates to the Addison Barnes & Noble Booksellers and $75 Book Sale Bucks for their schools.

You may also drop off books at the Book Sale location on these dates:

  • Sundays: Jan. 14, 21, 28; Feb. 4, 11, 18 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Tuesdays: Jan. 16, 23, 30; Feb. 6, 13, 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Thursdays: Jan. 18, 25; Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

If your business or organization is interested in conducting a drive for the sale, please call the Educational Foundation Office at 972-968-6543.

Sponsorship Opportunities

The Foundation and the Council of PTAs are seeking sponsors for the Book Sale. In-kind sponsorships help the organizations defray costs which boost the revenues. Monetary donations raise funds to benefit district math and science initiatives.

Cencor Realty is a longtime donor; IKON Printing Solutions is already on board for the second year by printing the sale’s flyers, posters and other printed materials. The sale also welcomes Time Warner as a new sponsor.

Sponsorship opportunities range from $5,000 to $500; and other in-kind options are available. To become a sponsor of the 2007 Gently Used Book Sale, please contact the Educational Foundation office at 972-968-6543.

Financial contributions are tax deductible as defined by the IRS Revenue Code because the Foundation and the Council of PTAs are 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.

Any pledge or contribution may be sent to the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation, P. O. Box 115186, Carrollton, TX 75011.

Book Sale Bucks

Last year, the Gently Used Book Sale Committee added a new twist. Book Sale Bucks are gift certificates available in $5.00 increments that can be used at the 2007 Gently Used Book Sale. The Book Sale Bucks can be purchased on the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation’s website, http://www.educational-foundation.org.

Individuals just click on the “book sale banner” on the foundation’s website to get to the Book Sale Buck information. You can make your “buck” purchases with a credit card or through a Pay Pal Account.

Book Sale Bucks make great gifts for anyone who loves to read. I know our teachers love to come and shop the sale for classroom books so Book Sale Bucks are great way to support teachers and the book sale.

The Foundation will notify anyone who is given a Book Sale Buck as a gift. I think what makes it even better is that the Foundation keeps the Bucks until the Sale so the individual just presents identification at the counter to pick up the bucks.

PTA and Educational Foundation

Our district is so fortunate to have an outstanding Council of PTAs as well as local units at our schools. Our Parent-Teacher-Association units compose the largest child advocacy organization that we have. Their support of public education helps C-FB ISD provide a warm, safe, caring environment and support systems for families. All of us appreciate the hours PTA members spend as school volunteers and the projects that they oversee that help our students, staff and district.

I applaud the Educational Foundation for its commitment to our school district and for the additional dollars that directly benefit classroom instruction and student achievement. The grants and scholarships that the Foundation has given are possible because businesses, corporations, organizations, alumni, friends, and citizens realize the importance of investing in educational excellence.

I applaud the C-FB ISD Educational Foundation and the Council of PTAs for your support. You are helping fulfill the dreams of our students – a quality education.

Thank you, C-FB ISD community for believing in public education. Please support these two organizations that are huge backers of our students, staff and schools by donating to the Gently Used Book Sale.

And, please join the Foundation, the PTA and me at the Sale on these dates: February 28 through March 4. It’s the greatest Gently Used Book Sale – you’ll find anywhere!
