C-FB ISD is such a special school district.
When colleagues from across Texas and the
nation ask me what makes the Carrollton-Farmers
Branch Independent School District so great,
the answer is easy: "The people." I
am blessed to work with educators, parents,
grandparents and business leaders who truly
care about children.
And, while our teachers, principals and
instructional team are working with students
to complete this school year, we have people
working feverishly preparing for the 2008-09
year. That includes registering students
for kindergarten, opening two new schools,
and implementing new programs.
If you have a child who will be five years
old before September 1, we encourage you
to sign up during early kindergarten registration.
Please go to our district’s website, www.cfbisd.edu and locate the link, Early Kindergarten Registration.
On that page, you will find our elementary
schools, and listing of their kindergarten
round-ups. These round-ups are a great way
to check out your child’s school and get
a jump start on the upcoming school year.
If you happened to miss your school’s kindergarten
round-up, please check in with your elementary
school to see about registering for kindergarten
before we close school in June. But, if you
don’t register before the end of school;
we will be advertising an August registration
date on our website this summer.
Anticipation and excitement always fill
the air when we begin any school year, but
even more enthusiasm surrounds the opening
of a new facility. And, when C-FB ISD starts
school on August 25, we will open Nancy Strickland
Intermediate School in Farmers Branch and
LaVillita Elementary School in Irving.
It has been a fun experience watching with
Nancy Strickland the intermediate school
in Farmers Branch being built. Nancy, a long
time Farmers Branch resident and district
educator, has been a part of the construction
process. Recently, the James A. Smith Masonic
Lodge of Farmers Branch held a cornerstone
ceremony where Nancy, her family, friends
and community members came out to see the
building. Although not ready for a final
walk-through, those in attendance saw a beautiful
structure underway.
This intermediate school for third through
fifth graders will be the companion school
to McLaughlin Elementary School which will
serve kindergarten through grade 2.
LaVillita Elementary School will be home
to pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students.
Our sixth school in the city of Irving, LaVillita
Elementary is designed to blend with the
neighborhood architecture and features exposed
wood and Mediterranean styling.
Whatever the façades of these buildings,
the most important aspects will be the learning
and activities that go on inside. When the
principal, faculty and staff are selected
they will meet with the parents and students
to establish the learning community for each
school. We know that our schools cannot succeed
without parent and community involvement.
Both schools will encourage parent visitations,
establish a volunteer program and create
business partnerships. And, like all C-FB
ISD schools the PTA will play a vital role
in these schools because we know when the
educational team and parents work together
everyone wins.
Families, who need information about kindergarten
registration, please check out the district’s
website, www.cfbisd.edu. If you need further
details, please contact the Division of Community,
Family, and Student Services and 972-968-6500
and a team member will be glad to assist
you. Those families and students who will
be moving to our new schools – Nancy Strickland
and LaVillita – it will be an exciting time.
If you have questions about these new schools,
you too may contact the Division of Community,
Family, and Student Services.
I thank the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent
School District for believing in public education.
Because of the community’s support, our students
can attend classes in beautiful, well-maintained,
state-of-the-art buildings. And, in those
buildings, we have top-notch, dedicated teachers
and staff who believe in this district’s
vision that every student will graduate college-ready.
